Arizona-Mexico Border Delays Increase as Mexico Heightens Inspections

A recent news report from Arizona’s Family (3TV/CBS 5) describes increased wait times at the Arizona-Mexico border due to heightened inspections by Mexican authorities.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Increased Security: Mexico has deployed National Guard troops to border cities to conduct vehicle inspections and question drivers and passengers. This is causing significant delays, with some drivers reporting wait times of several hours.
  • Reason for the Increased Security: These measures are part of an agreement between former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and US President Donald Trump’s previous administration aimed at curbing the flow of drugs, particularly fentanyl, into the US.
  • Impact on Travelers: The longer wait times are impacting people’s travel plans, with some reconsidering trips to Mexico. However, others, like the Phoenix resident interviewed in the report, are willing to endure the delays.
  • Locations Affected: The report specifically mentions the Lukeville Port of Entry as experiencing significant delays, while the San Luis Port of Entry has seen less impact.
  • Advice for Travelers: The report advises drivers to be prepared for longer wait times, especially during peak travel periods like spring break, and to have all necessary vehicle documents ready.

The report concludes by noting that it is unclear how long these heightened inspections will last.

  1. Very helpful. I’d suggest switching former from Trump to Obrador. No doubt a Freudian slip.

    1. Ah yes Stephen with thanks. This was between former presidents of which one is now current president again. Fixed.
